Argiolas Costera Cannanou Di Sardegna 2022

For those who aren’t familiar with Cannonau, it’s the Sardinian name for Grenache, but here it takes on a character all its own—darker, more savory, and steeped in the Mediterranean sun.

In the glass, the 2022 vintage offers an intense ruby hue with garnet edges. The nose is a rustic bouquet of ripe black cherries, wild strawberries, and the “garrigue” herbs—rosemary and thyme—that grow wild across the island. Thanks to a few months in French oak, you’ll also find subtle undertones of vanilla, licorice, and cracked black pepper that add a layer of sophistication without overshadowing the fruit.

On the palate, it’s full-bodied and warm, yet balanced by a vibrant acidity and soft, enveloping tannins. It’s the kind of wine that begs for food; in Sardinia, it’s the classic partner for spit-roasted meats, but it will be equally at home with a hearty pasta bolognese or a sharp pecorino cheese.
