Planted in the 1890s, these vines are some of the most historic in the state, and the 2023 vintage is a total knockout. This year, a cooler growing season and a late harvest (nearly a month later than usual) allowed for incredible phenolic maturity without the heavy sugars. The result? Winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson has captured a sense of transparent fruit here that is rare for California field blends. It’s savory, saline, and incredibly persistent on the finish.
