This is the 2022 Cantele Amativo, a wine that basically functions as a love letter to the Salento peninsula. If you’ve spent any time digging into the heel of Italy’s boot, you know that Primitivo and Negroamaro are the two heavy hitters, and here the Cantele family has essentially married them together—hence the name “Ama-tivo.”

In the glass, it’s an absolute powerhouse. The Primitivo brings the plush, sun-drenched fruit and that hedonistic ripeness, while the Negroamaro provides the backbone and a savory, earthy grip that keeps everything in check. It’s full-bodied and bold, sure, but there’s a lifted acidity and a little pinch of mint on the finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.
