Hailing from the high-altitude hills just west of Nuits-Saint-Georges, the 2022 Domaine des Chambris Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge is a quintessential insider Burgundy. In a region where prices often climb as fast as the slopes, this bottle offers a refreshing dose of reality—and a lot of soul.

Pierre Laurent, a first-generation winemaker who started his domaine in a borrowed garage, has crafted a Pinot Noir that captures the sun-drenched energy of the 2022 vintage without losing its cool-climate nerve.

On the pour, it shows a brilliant, translucent ruby. The nose is a charming mix of wild strawberries, ripe red cherries, and a touch of damp earth—what the French call sous-bois. Give it a moment in the glass, and you’ll find subtle floral notes of peony and a whisper of spice.

The palate is lively and crunchy, with a burst of red fruit supported by fine-grained tannins and a stony, mineral backbone. It’s light-to-medium-bodied but possesses a surprising density that reflects the low yields of the Hautes-Côtes.
