Château Larrivet Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan 2015

Under the guidance of Bruno Lemoine, Larrivet Haut-Brion has moved away from the over-extracted styles of the past toward something much more precise, energetic, and—frankly—delicious.

The 2015 is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. It pours a deep, light-absorbing garnet, and the nose is pure Pessac: crushed blackberries and cassis met with that unmistakable “Left Bank” signature of cigar box, scorched earth, and a hint of licorice.

On the palate, it’s remarkably supple. The vintage’s warmth gave the fruit a lovely, succulent mid-palate, but there’s a spine of stony minerality and fine-grained tannins that keeps everything focused. It’s fleshy in the best way possible—generous and inviting, but never losing its cool.

It has the concentration to age for another 15 years, but the 2015 vintage delivered such silky tannins that it’s already entering a prime drinking window. Whether you’re pairing it with a simple roast lamb or letting it evolve in a decanter for an hour, it delivers the kind of class and complexity that usually costs twice the price.
