Château Pape Clement Pessac-Léognan 2018
$150.00
This is a site with vines dating back to the 13th century, and under the stewardship of Bernard Magrez, it has consistently pushed toward the First Growth echelon. In 2018, everything simply clicked.
What immediately grabs you about the 2018 is its extraordinary clarity and detail. Despite being a full-bodied, high-octane blend (66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and a splash of Cabernet Franc), the wine stays remarkably light on its feet.
While Pape Clément is often known for its textural richness and lavish oak (60% new French oak here), the 2018 shows a nuanced character. It reminds us of a slightly more elegant 2005—it has the muscles of a powerhouse, but the juice and freshness to keep it from feeling heavy.
This is a bottle for the long haul. While it’s starting to unfurl, it will truly hit its stride with 4–5 more years in the cellar and has the bones to cruise for three decades.
