Chateau Siran Margaux 2020
$49.99
Located at the southern edge of the Margaux appellation, Siran has been in the Miailhe family since 1859. If you’re wondering why a property of this pedigree isn’t a “Classified Growth,” it’s essentially because the family at the time were staunch monarchists who skipped the 1855 Classification as a protest against Napoleon III. Their loss back then is your gain now: Siran consistently performs at a Grand Cru Classé level but without the eye-watering price tag.
The 2020 vintage in Bordeaux was hot and dry, but Siran’s unique terroir—a mix of fine gravel and sand—managed the heat beautifully. This isn’t a blockbuster wine trying to bowl you over with sheer power; instead, it captures that quintessential Margaux elegance.
While it’s approachable now with a good decant (give it an hour or two), this is a wine built for the long haul. It will easily evolve and gain complexity over the next 15 to 20 years.
