The “Pianrosso” vineyard is a 11.6-hectare gem located on the south-facing slopes of Montalcino. It’s famous for its galestro-heavy soils—that crumbly, schist-based clay that gives Brunello its signature mineral spine and aristocratic structure. In exceptional years, Ciacci selects the absolute best clusters from this plot to create the Santa Caterina d’Oro Riserva.

The 2010 growing season was the “Goldilocks” year—not too hot, not too cold. It provided a long, steady ripening period that allowed for incredible phenolic maturity without the sugar spikes of a heatwave year.
