Domaine Gilbert Picq Chablis Dessus La Carrière 2022

Didier Picq and his siblings consistently turn out some of the most chiseled and unapologetically traditional Chablis in the region—all without a splinter of oak in sight.

While their regular AC Chablis is a perennial favorite, the Dessus La Carrière is something special. The name literally translates to “above the quarry,” referring to two specific parcels—Semon and Paradis—perched directly atop an old limestone pit. Here, the topsoil is so thin it’s practically non-existent; the vines are essentially plugging directly into the mother rock.

The 2022 vintage in Chablis was warmer with more sunshine and generosity than the frost-bitten 2021 so it’s got a bit more weight and depth than the entry-level cuvée, but the finish is linear, precise, and vibrating with mineral energy.
