While Port is often associated with power and extraction, the Dow’s 2000 Vintage Port is a reminder that this category can be profoundly structural and savory.

The 2000 vintage was a turning point for the Douro. It was a year defined by a wet winter followed by a scorching, dry summer, resulting in tiny yields of incredibly concentrated fruit. But Dow’s always does things a little differently. They are famous for a drier style of Port; by allowing the fermentation to go just a bit longer before fortifying with grape spirit, they achieve a wine that is less about sugary weight and more about tension and mineral drive.

It’s a study in balance—showing how a wine can be immensely powerful and unapologetically firm, yet remain graceful on the palate.
