E. Pira Barolo Mosconi Chiara Boschis 2013
$125.00
Chiara Boschis is one of the most prominent, influential, and respected figures in the Italian wine world. Often referred to as the “Queen of Barolo,” she is widely celebrated as the first prominent female winemaker in the Langhe region of Piedmont—an area historically dominated entirely by men.
Her 2013 Barolo Mosconi (E. Pira & Figli) is a prime example of the distinct, muscular identity of Monforte d’Alba. While Mosconi historically delivers a broader, more robust profile with a bit less of the lacy finesse found in the estate’s Cannubi or Via Nuova bottlings, Chiara Boschis has coaxed a remarkable level of polish out of this fruit. The natural richness of the site is beautifully framed by firm, well-integrated tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that carries the dark fruit into a long, mouthwatering finish. It is an especially refined, layered, and multi-dimensional wine for this cru.
While entertaining a gorgeous balance right now, this classic, structured Barolo has plenty of gas in the tank. It will easily continue to evolve and shed its substantial structure over the next 10 to 15 years.
