The Maremma coast is often associated with the Super Tuscan heavyweights—opulent, oak-driven blends that aim for power over poise. But Elisabetta Geppetti, the “Lady of Morellino,” has always marched to a different beat at Fattoria Le Pupille. Her Poggio Valente is a singular expression of Sangiovese that trades brute force for a luminous, coastal elegance that we find absolutely irresistible.

The estate has moved toward aging in larger oak botte, allowing the fruit to step out from behind the curtain of wood. The result is a wine that feels crunchy and alive. You’ll find the classic Tuscan cherry and plum, but it’s the savory, Mediterranean rosemary and lavender that really sing here.

On the palate, it is medium-to-full-bodied but remarkably lifted–a Sangiovese that captures the sun and salt of the Tuscan coast with pinpoint precision.
