Frassinello Le Sughere Toscana IGT 2022
$28.00
The 2022 Le Sughere di Frassinello is the “second wine” of the famed Rocca di Frassinello estate—a joint venture between the legendary Castellare di Castellina in Chianti and the heavy hitters from Bordeaux, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Château Lafite).
In the glass, the 2022 is a serious overachiever. It’s a blend of 50% Sangioveto (a specific local clone of Sangiovese), 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Merlot. Think of it as a Super Tuscan with a French accent. The Sangioveto provides that classic Tuscan lift—bright red cherries and a distinct floral, violet note—while the French varieties round things out with darker plum skin, blackberry jam, and a touch of cedar spice from 12 months in French oak.
What really stands out in the 2022 vintage is the texture. It’s succulent and tense in all the right ways, meaning it has the acidity to keep you coming back for another sip, but the tannins are velvety and ripe. It’s a bold, racy coastal red that feels much more expensive than its price tag suggests.
