Hacienda Monesterio Ribera Del Duero 2015
$57.50
Hacienda Monasterio is a benchmark for Ribera del Duero, and for good reason: the winemaking is steered by the legendary Peter Sisseck (the man behind the cult-status Pingus). While Sisseck is known for pushing boundaries, here he focuses on a classic, site-specific expression of the high-altitude, chalky soils of Pesquera de Duero.
The 2015 vintage in Ribera was nothing short of stellar—a year defined by ideal ripening that yielded wines of immense concentration and poise. This bottling is a blend predominantly of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), bolstered by small additions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that add a structural “Left Bank” nod to the wine’s Spanish soul.
This is a powerhouse wine that refuses to be heavy-handed. It possesses the pedigree and richness of a blue-chip collectible but maintains an approachable elegance that makes it a joy to drink now (though it has the structure to evolve beautifully in your cellar for another decade). It’s an organic, estate-grown red that punches well above its weight class.
