James Pepper Barrel Proof Bourbon 750mL
$65.00
After what was almost a lost legacy, a decade’s worth of obsessive work has restored this historic Lexington, Kentucky distiller to its former glory. The whiskies coming of age now are some of the finest from any American producer, and this bottling marks a new milestone in the brand’s revival.
Aged for a minimum of five years and presented in a striking serving decanter—a recreation of the distillery’s 1945 design—this Bourbon is arguably the most impressive you will find at this age. It is distilled, aged, and bottled right at the historic distillery (DSP-KY-5), utilizing a unique mash bill that includes corn, rye, malted barley, and malted rye.
By bottling straight from the barrel, uncut and unfiltered, the distillery preserves an incredible depth of character. The aromas pour out of the glass with toasted oak and walnuts, while the palate is absolutely bursting with notes of maraschino cherries, sweet spices, gingerbread, and deeply seasoned oak. The finish is medium-long, lingering with creamy vanilla, citrus peel, and a touch of nutmeg.
This is a powerful, high-rye expression that rewards the patient sipper. It’s a bottle that looks as good on the bar as it tastes in the glass—a true testament to the grit and heritage of the Pepper family name.
