Leitz Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling Auslese 2005 500mL

$49.99

Johannes Leitz is a bit of a legend in the Rheingau, and for good reason. He has a knack for taking the steep, slate-heavy slopes of Rüdesheim and turning out wines that are as much about power as they are about precision. The Berg Rottland vineyard is a prime example: situated on a sun-drenched, south-facing slope right above the Rhine, it yields wines with a distinctively chiseled personality.

The 2005 vintage was legendary in Germany, providing the kind of ideal conditions that allow Auslese (select-harvest) wines to achieve incredible concentration without losing their soul.

On the nose, this isn’t just fruit; it’s an explosion of caramelized pineapple, mango, and dried apricots, all underscored by a deep, earthy hit of quartzite and slate minerality. Because it’s had some time to settle in the bottle, you’ll also find those gorgeous, savory secondary notes—think wild honey, a whisper of petrol, and balsamic apple.

The palate is where the magic happens. It’s unctuous and rich, coating the mouth with tropical sweetness, but then the trademark Rheingau acidity kicks in to keep everything perfectly balanced. It finishes long, spicy, and remarkably clean.
