While some Burgundy houses are chasing a reductive lightning bolt that can leave wines feeling a bit shy, the 2018 Charmes from Adèle and Elsa Matrot is unreservedly itself: generous, sun-drenched, and soulful.

This isn’t just another bottle of Chardonnay; it’s a study in the “Charmes” climat. The Matrots own about a hectare here, with the bulk of their vines sitting in Charmes Dessus (the top bit). That elevation is key. It provides a mineral backbone that keeps the 2018 vintage—a year known for its warmth and abundance—from ever feeling heavy.

This is quintessential Meursault that manages to be both powerful and pretty. It’s drinking beautifully right now, but if you have a cool dark corner in your apartment, it’ll reward you for the next decade.
