While many bottles from this corner of the South Island lean into an aggressively herbal, “grassy” profile, Sandy Cove offers a more measured and sophisticated approach. Produced by the talented Josh Scott (son of local legend Allan Scott), this is a wine that prizes texture and ripeness over sheer puckering power.

The 2025 vintage captures that classic New Zealand sunshine in a bottle. On the nose, it’s a tropical getaway: waves of passionfruit and ripe mango are punctuated by a bright, zesty grapefruit kick. Because the fruit is harvested at peak ripeness and spent a brief period resting on its lees, the palate is surprisingly round and supple—far from the shrill acidity that can sometimes plague the region.

It is, quite simply, pure pleasantness to drink. Think of it as a summer beach cocktail in wine form—dry, refreshing, and incredibly easy to pair. It’s a standout value for the quality, proving that New Zealand’s signature grape can be both elegant and approachable without losing its soul.
