Schloss Gobelsburg Grüner Veltliner Ried Renner 2018

The 2018 vintage of this iconic Grüner Veltliner is a testament to why the Cistercian monks chose this site nearly a millennium ago. Sitting right at the foot of the Gaisberg hill, Renner is composed of deep loess soils mixed with eroded primary rock. It’s a site that provides a unique tug-of-war between richness and tension.

Gobelsburg is one of the few estates that treats Grüner Veltliner with the same reverence usually reserved for Grand Cru Burgundy. The Ried Renner is an “Erste Lage” (Premier Cru) bottling that ages with incredible grace. The 2018 is just entering its prime drinking window, shedding its youthful baby fat and revealing a deep, stony core.
