Seghesio Barolo Vigneto La Villa 2013
$59.50
In the heart of Monforte d’Alba, the Seghesio family has been quietly farming some of the most coveted dirt in the Langhe for over a century. Vigneto La Villa, a choice parcel within the Castelletto cru, sits on those iconic limestone soils that give Monforte wines their trademark “iron fist in a velvet glove” personality.
Right now, this 2013 is entering a beautiful sweet spot. The primary crunch of youth has softened into something much more cerebral:
The Aromas: It starts with high-toned floral notes—think dried roses and lavender—before diving into the darker stuff: black cherry, blood orange peel, and that heady, forest-after-the-rain scent of pine and mint.
The Palate: Dense and pliant. You get a core of dark, savory fruit wrapped in tannins that are firm but finely pixelated.
The Finish: It leaves you with a lingering trail of licorice, tar, and tobacco. It’s a wine with a lot to say, and it takes its time saying it.
