Talmard Macon-Uchizy 2024

While the flashy names of the Côte d’Or continue their ascent into the pricing stratosphere, Domaine Talmard remains firmly rooted in the clay and limestone of Uchizy, doing what they have done since the 17th century: producing Chardonnay of startling purity and undeniable charm.

The 2024 vintage is a textbook example of why we return to this estate year after year. To maintain freshness in the warmer Mâconnais, the Talmard family famously picks their fruit slightly earlier than their neighbors. The result is a wine that sidesteps the heavy or flabby pitfalls of southern Burgundy, opting instead for a profile that is bright, saline, and incredibly precise.

This is unoaked Chardonnay at its most articulate. Because it is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel, there is no wood to mask the terroir. Instead, you get a beautiful, silken texture derived from extended time on the lees, balanced by a zippy, mineral-driven acidity that practically begs for another sip. Notes of succulent peach and honeydew melon appear on the mid-palate, finishing with a chalky, clean snap.
