Terredora Aglianico 2019

$14.99

Deep in the heart of the volcanic slopes of Campania, the Mastroberardino family—now under the Terredora di Paolo label—continues to champion the ancient, noble grapes of Southern Italy. If you’re looking for a red that carries the weight of history without the heavy price tag of a Taurasi, this 2019 Aglianico is your ticket.

Often called the “Nebbiolo of the South,” Aglianico is known for its formidable structure and deep, savory soul. In the 2019 vintage, Terredora has managed to capture that intensity while keeping the wine remarkably approachable. It pours a dense, shimmering ruby and immediately leaps out of the glass with a quintessential Campanian bouquet: wild blackberries, tart red cherries, and dried violets, all underscored by a distinct, smoky minerality that speaks to its volcanic upbringing.

On the palate, it’s a sturdy, medium-bodied affair. You’ll find layers of spicy black pepper, licorice, and a hint of tobacco leaf. While Aglianico is famous for its “grippy” tannins, here they are well-knit and refined, providing a firm backbone that begs for food. The finish is clean and persistent, marked by a refreshing acidity that keeps you coming back for another sip.

This is a versatile, blue-collar aristocrat of a wine. It’s exactly what we want on the table for a Sunday roast, a hearty pasta Bolognese, or even just a spread of aged provolone and cured meats.
