Vallepicciola has quickly become one of the most exciting estates in the Chianti Classico zone, and the 2022 Pievasciata Rosso is a shining example of why.

Crafted by Alessandro Cellai—who honed his craft under the legendary Giacomo Tachis (the man behind Sassicaia)—this wine is a thoughtfully composed blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 20% Sangiovese. The 2022 vintage was a sun-drenched one, but thanks to the estate’s high-altitude vineyards (up to 450 meters) and limestone-rich soils, the wine maintains a beautiful, structural zip that balances its Mediterranean soul.

On the pour, you’ll find an intense ruby hue and violet reflections. The nose is a classic Tuscan getaway: ripe cherries and spiced plums meet savory notes of mint chocolate, tobacco, and crushed lavender. On the palate, it’s medium-to-full-bodied with firm, compact tannins that suggest this bottle has plenty of life ahead of it. Expect a core of dark fruit—think blackberries and cassis—bolstered by a streak of graphite and balsamic herbs on a long, persistent finish.
