Alain Graillot Saint Joseph Rouge 2019

$55.00

For fans of the Northern Rhône, the name Graillot is synonymous with the soulful, stem-inclusive Syrah that redefined Crozes-Hermitage. But for those in the know, his tiny holding in Saint-Joseph is where the real intrigue lies—especially in a vintage as structured and radiant as 2019.

Alain Graillot (and now his son Maxime) has always had a knack for capturing the “crunch” of Syrah. In 2019, that signature vibrancy is dialed up. While the Crozes is often defined by its alluvial gravel, the Saint-Joseph comes from a mere hectare of vines perched on steep, decomposed granite. That granite terroir translates into a wine with a more vertical, chiseled profile—a sleeker, more mineral-driven sibling to the estate’s flagship bottlings.

The 2019 is a classic Graillot performance: 100% whole-cluster fermentation provides that unmistakable aromatic lift of cracked black pepper, violets, and smoked meats. On the palate, the fruit is dark and pulpy—think wild blackberries and black cherries—but it’s the non-fruit elements that command your attention. There’s a streak of olive brine and a cool, stony finish that keeps the richness of the 2019 sun in check. Simply put, this is a Syrah with serious cut.
