Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

$215.00

Spottswoode is often called the “Château Margaux of Napa,” and for very good reason. Tucked away at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains in St. Helena, this historic estate has been organically farmed since 1985—long before it was the “in” thing to do. The Novak family treats their 42 acres with a level of care that borders on the obsessive, and it shows in every bottle.

The 2014 vintage is a real heart-stealer. While some Napa Cabs from this era lean into pure, unadulterated power, the Spottswoode Estate is all about finesse and poise. It’s a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, aged for 20 months in French oak.

On the nose, it’s a total knockout: think crushed black currants, violets, and graphite, with just a hint of dark chocolate and pencil shavings. On the palate, the wine is incredibly seamless. It’s full-bodied but never heavy, supported by silky, ultra-polished tannins and a vibrant acidity that keeps everything lifted and fresh. You’ll find layers of plum, blackberry, and a savory, stony minerality that lingers for what feels like minutes.

This is a wine of incredible longevity. It’s drinking beautifully now if you give it a good decant, but it has the legs to evolve gracefully in your cellar for another 20 years.
