Vieux Pruniers Sancerre 2025

The Thirot-Fournier family at Domaine des Vieux Pruniers are the real deal. Located in the village of Blue, this corner of Sancerre offers an amphitheater of steep, dizzying limestone slopes that produces wines with a very specific kind of energy. Uninterested in the kind of mass-produced, tropical-punch Sancerre that’s unfortunately become too common, they’re farming ten hectares of vines with a focus on purity and the mineral rich soil they’re rooted in.

This is exactly what we’re looking for when we want a wine that actually tastes like the place it came from. 2025 was a year that rewarded the patient; you get that classic, high-toned Sauvignon Blanc snap, but there’s a density of fruit here that feels perfectly balanced by the vintage’s natural acidity.

It’s a classic in the truest sense of the word. It doesn’t need bells or whistles; it just needs a glass and a bit of sunshine. We only wish we could get our hands on more of it, because bottles like this tend to disappear from our shelves faster than we can restock them.
