David Moreau Santenay Clos Rousseau 2022

Since taking over his family’s estate in Santenay in 2009—after stints at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Hubert de Montille, and Olivier Lamy—David Moreau has established himself as one of the most meticulous young vignerons working in Burgundy today.
Clos Rousseau sits on steep, south/southeast-facing slopes at the southern boundary of Santenay, where thin limestone and marl soils force vine roots deep into the bedrock. David’s parcel was planted back in 1967. These old vines naturally yield tiny berries with a high proportion of millerandage (small, seedless grapes), which endows the wine with incredible concentration, vivid aromatics, and natural acidity.
Where Santenay can sometimes lean rustic, Moreau’s touch yields pure elegance and delineation. It drinks with energy today after a decent decant, but has the bones and acidity to age gracefully for 10–15 years in a cool cellar.
