Domaine de Courcel Pommard Les Vaumuriens 2014

$85.00

This family-run 400 year-old estate is a landmark in the Côte de Beaune, now guided by the expert hand of winemaker Yves Confuron. While many know the domaine for its muscular Premier Crus, the “Les Vaumuriens” climat—perched just above the famed Le Grand Clos des Épenots—is a bottle that consistently punches well above its village-level weight.

The 2014 vintage is a classic, savory expression of Burgundy that is hitting a beautiful drinking window right now. Expect a wine that is unapologetically “Pommard” in its build: structured, earthy, and deep. On the nose, it offers a sophisticated mix of cassis and dark cherry, accented by that distinct stony minerality that comes from the thin, white marl soils of the upper slopes.

On the palate, it’s a wine of incredible energy. The tannins are firm and well-defined, providing a sturdy backbone for the layers of spice and zesty red fruit. As it opens up, you’ll find subtle notes of clove and a hint of forest floor that make it a natural match for hearty dishes—think roast duck, game birds, or a simple plate of aged Gruyère. This is serious, elegant Pinot Noir for those who appreciate a wine with a sense of place and the patience to let it evolve in the glass.
