Ponzi Vineyards Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Reserve 2017

$75.00

In the world of Willamette Valley pioneers, Ponzi occupies a space that is as much about lineage as it is about the dirt. Dick and Nancy Ponzi were there at the beginning, but it’s Luisa Ponzi who has spent the last few decades refining a style that bridges the gap between Oregon’s exuberant fruit and the structural rigor of the Côte d’Or.

The 2017 Reserve is a serious, terroir-driven bottle that reminds us why we look to the Chehalem Mountains for Pinot with cut. Sourced from the family’s estate vineyards on those distinct, wind-blown Laurelwood soils, this isn’t a shy wine. The 2017 vintage—a throwback year that favored acidity and precision over sheer heat—has yielded a Pinot with remarkable lift.

With about 40% whole-cluster fermentation and a judicious 30% new French oak, the wine feels knit together—structured for the long haul but with enough primary snap to enjoy now if you’ve got a decanter handy.
